Painter
Amina Rmiki
Scenes of life gleaned from childhood memories, traditions seen with the curious eye of a child she has kept within: Amina Rmiki chose figuration to express her attachment to her roots.
The artist
Career
Born in Ksar El Kebir, Amina Rmiki showed an early interest in drawing and painting, as the works hung in her childhood home testify. During twenty years as a teacher in public education, she volunteered to lead school art projects, before leaving teaching to fulfil her dream of entering the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan. She graduated in 1982, earned a master’s degree in drawing from the San Fernando faculty in Madrid in 1983, and, after summer programmes in 1981, 1982 and 1983, two diplomas from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
The eye of childhood
Her figurative painting draws on tradition and memories of daily life, in a style that remains deeply coloured by wonder. She has held solo and group exhibitions in several Moroccan cities.
